Car Care in Florida Heat: Washing and Detailing Without Water Spots

June 20, 2026 · 6 min read

Florida gives you sun, salt air, love bugs and daily storms — often in the same week. The techniques that work up north will leave you with water spots down here. These adjustments make a real difference.

Wash early or late, never mid-day

Panels heat up fast in Florida sun and water evaporates before you can dry it, leaving mineral spots behind. Early morning, evening or a shaded garage are your best windows.

Keep the whole car wet while you work

Rinse each section as you go instead of soaping the entire vehicle and coming back to it. Foam helps here — a thick foaming wash clings longer and gives you more working time before anything dries.

Dry immediately, and dry properly

  • Use a large twisted-loop drying towel rather than chasing droplets with a small one.
  • Blot and pull rather than scrubbing across the paint.
  • Open doors, trunk and fuel door to catch trapped water before it runs out later.

Protect against sun and salt

UV exposure fades paint and trim faster here than almost anywhere. A topper like a ceramic detail spray after each wash adds a sacrificial layer, and it makes love bugs and road film far easier to remove next time.

Rinse after coastal driving

If you drive near the water, a plain rinse after the trip removes salt before it sits. It takes two minutes and it is the cheapest paint protection there is.
